Almost Ready for Inspection

A lot has happened on the bike since the last update. Just before Christmas I had ordered a set of new tires for the bike and they finally came in January 3rd. I found a new LCD with a fast clock (1 min = 10 sec), won some front turn signals and had some time to monkey with the bike. The first thing I did was check out the turn signals, install the new windshield and the chrome accent piece below it. As it turns out the chrome accent piece is going to need a slight modification to fit right but it's nothing 10 minutes with a Dremel tool wont solve. I also managed to get the low beam in the headlight to work right finally. The previous owner had installed a switch to disable the low beam and the switch was broken so I just connected the wires back the way they should have been in the first place.

This is the new LCD unit plugged in to make sure it works properly. The clock is definitely fast but it still does everything else fine including showing the fuel tank was nearly empty. I added in some hurricane gas and up the needle went.

It took me forever to get these wheels off... Well the rear wheel was more of the bitch than the front. Honda in their infinite wisdom decided that the muffler should cover where the axle comes out. it took an hour of banging the crap out of it to get it to move enough to get the axle in and out. Amazingly it only took two taps to get the muffler back in place. The old tires really needed to be replaced. I researched a few months on which tires to get and finally decided on the Metzler ME 880 series touring tires. The many folks I talked to said these would give me good low speed maneuvering ability and would still hold up well. I took this opportunity to replace the front fender too.

Here she is as is now in the garage. After all that work to get her this far so I could take her for a spin down the street and the battery died on me. I spent most of that day monkeying with the air suspension system... It doesn't work without the cluster is the conclusion but I was able to circumvent that and get the controls to work manually.
