She Runs!

With the new Gold Wing tucked in the garage I started planning how I am going to repair her. I started off making a preliminary video of the damage as could be seen from the surface. The only additional items I could find so far are as follows:

  • Cluster is destroyed for the most part... Need a new one.

  • Right front shelter fairing is cracked. I think I can repair it but it might have to be replaced.

  • Front tire has a nice gouge in it... Need a new one.

  • Rear tire is worn pretty good... Need a new one.

  • The plastic trim around the dash is broken and missing in places. I'll have to source replacements.

Next I decided that I would like to hear her startup and run a few minutes. Well... The battery was dead when we picked up the bike because someone had left the key in the on position. I borrowed a charger and went to work removing the seat and then removing the battery... This is what I found.

No big deal... I just need to buy a new battery now. Luckily I had a battery left over from the Rabbit Convertible... Dead of course. Next I tried the battery out of the GS500E... Lights on but not enough juice to crank. So with a little help from the Passat she cranked over and fired right up. Amazingly all the lights excluding the headlight and the left front turn signal work just fine.

I also received the rest of the items I won on eBay to get me started. The bike should look a lot cleaner with these installed with the new front fairing.
